Location with Smallmouth bass

Been a while since my last post but i thought i would share a pic from one of my last outings. Like a lot of outings and tournaments this season the bite has been slower than usual. A tactic i use for smallies when they are negative or neutral is a jerkbait. Smallmouth bass are an extremely excitable fish which makes for a fun jerkbait bite, even when they are not in a feeding mood. The key is to use a very erratic motion to get their attention, then once you have them following your bait you will notice they will turn away or swipe at it wirh not much intention in eating it. This is where you alter your cadence and slow it down and pause it right in front of their lips to entice them to take a shot at an easy meal now that they have committed this far. This one of my favourite aspects of fishing, the chess match between fish and angler. Take the time to learn to read fish and you will most definitely put more topside.
