Location with Blue catfish
Went out on the main river after work, in the rain. Somehow it can be hot and sunny all day and the moment my kayak is off my truck... Anyways, the wind and rain weve had just made a crappy tide even worse. Low wasnt true low, water was muddy, wind and tides were running with one another raising the water level rapidly. I went out in search of main river snakehead spots, lost a 7 or 8 lb snakehead at the mouth of Aquia (8:1 gear ratio still wasnt fast enough) and I caught my first ever topwater cat. This blue cat exploded on my Rico like a bass or a snakehead would. No complaints! Heck of a fight, beautiful evening, and I did keep this one for the table. Vicious 40# braid and factory hooks replaced with Owner trebles pulled and kept this fish out of the grass and straight into the net. I was primarily fishing main river grassbeds (Arkendale area), not Aquia Creek, but thats the closest option on FishBrain. Side note: Bass were busting the top everywhere in Arkendale. Biggest I caught was about 2-1/2lbs but I stopped counting they were hitting so readily. If its anything like that in the AM, itd be a great area to pick up a quick limit and then focus on culling fish.
