Location with Largemouth bass
So March 26th and 27th were good days for me on Houston County Lake. I managed to catch two really good fish. One 6 pounder on a Spot Remover 1/4 Shakey Head with a Strike King Cut-R worm. I also had a fish in the 8 to 10 pound range at the side of the boat and broke it off because of my failure to retie. I was fishing 8 pound fluorocarbon and after I caught the 6 pounder I knew my line was frayed but decide to make a couple more cast before moving and ofcourse thats when the giant bit. My biggest fish came unexpected. I had been catching most of my fish on steeper backs. Throwing shallow but dropping off quickly to 12 to 15 FOW. As I moved down the bank it became flatter and shallow and really just looked unproductive considering how I had been catching them. So I picked up my jig rod. I was going to flip a couple docks and move. Something told me to swim the jig. I never do it but a split second decision told me to cover the unproductive looking water quickly. So I cast my 1/2 ounce Strike King Denny Brauer Structure Jig with Rage Craw trailer to the bank and started slowly reeling it back and thats when she bit out toward the end of the dock in 3 FOW. Bam she was close to the boat so the fight didnt last long and I caught my biggest fish of the year so far. I didnt have my scale so I put her in the livewell and ran to the next cove where a couple guys were prefishing for a tournament. 8lbs even. Point is dont get locked in to one pattern. Especially around the spawn. Just because one pattern is producing fish on certain structure doesnt mean its the only pattern going on.
