Location with Largemouth bass

Location: Whites SloughWater Temp: 62-64 deg.Water: StainedAfter last weeks poor showing fishing out of Russos for fun, I wasnt riding high with confidence coming into this Delta tournament. I knew that the delta bite has been inconsistent and each day with good weather can only improve the bite. Coming into this event, we had a week of good weather and Sunday was no different except some cloud cover. We launched at 6:30 am and I immediately start rowing west to a few spots I know have fish.It is low tide in the morning, but with so much water in the river, it doesnt fluctuate much lately. I start the day throwing a frog and buzzbait to see if I can steal a few aggressive fish first thing. From my experience, you can get some huge bites early on topwater on the delta. Today was no such luck. I started working the outside weedline, (whites has lots of hydrilla) and wasnt getting bit. So around 7am, I move inside to start flipping and throwing a Canopy Grenades skirt.Im flipping and punching the tulie clumps shallow in about 1-5ft of water. After the first few patches, I decide to start pitching at bar riprap in-between the tulie patches(I remember watching a Bassmaster elite on the delta and the bass were spawning on the riprap). Well, first cast and a couple hops and boom, 4.6lber. I use my clip-n-cull(awesome cull system btw) and put her in the box. I keep moving along to the next riprap area and boom 3.5lber.Three casts later and boom 2.5lber. Im loving this! I had a 12lb limit by 10am! Based on the weights brough in from Delta Dans yesterday I figured 20lbs is what it would take to win our event today, so I knew 12lbs wasnt going to win it. After flipping and only rats chewing, I decide to get my 110 jerkbait and work over the top of the weeds as the water started to come in. I made a bunch of casts and then I get the lightest of bites. I can tell its barely hooked cause she just sipped at it as it passed by most likely. I put pressure on her and she comes straight at me fast to the point my line goes slack. I regain the slack and she deep right under the boat. Im using my 5 power lamiglass jerkbait rod with 12lb test and she has me double over. I usually will freespool them if they start making runs at the boat. Today I didnt and the hook popped out. I never saw her, but it was a good fish. After I wiped away some tears ;) I proceed to cull one fish that was 1lb for a 1.75lber. It was my last keeper for the day. I only had 2 bites from 12-3pm. Talk about a tale of 2 tides. My final weight 13.32 good enough for 2nd place! Sal caught a monster 8lber that enough to secure 1st place and big fish for the day. All in all it was a long day especially if you didnt pattern them early. These fish arent spawning quite yet, but there are a lot of males shallow and females feed in the rocks.TIGHT LINES!
